Sandwich Panels, Aluminum and Thermoplastics honeycombs and Foams
Marble support means empowering lightness. A thin slab of marble, granite or natural stone of reduced thickness is combined with a honeycomb sandwich panel in order to reduce weight and facilitate handling and installation.
A composite is a combination of materials with different properties. This combination gives the composite material mechanical characteristics such as lightness and resistance that are superior to those of single materials.
Sandwich panels with honeycomb core and fiberglass skins impregnated with epoxy or phenolic resin (Step Series), are used to reinforce marble and semi-precious stones.
Sandwich panels, made with different honeycomb cores and glass-fibers impregnated with epoxy resin, permit to reduce stone thicknesses. This confers the panel lightness and resistance at the same time. Lightweight Sandwich panels are not only used to with marble and precious stones, but also be with any stone or ceramic material.
The Step series and the COMPOCEL AL offer various advantages and they are used in order to:
Sandwich panels permit to reduce stone thickness, obtaining lighter floors and coatings and at the same time increasing the resistance of the final product.
The use of sandwich panels permits to halve the thickness of the marble slab through the "splitting" technique.
The panel, glued to the marble using epoxy resins, absorbs the tensions caused by the gluing process offering the slab a permanent support.
A particular covering ensures maximum bonding grip, and the application of a waterproof fibre avoid infiltration problems during the cutting process.
CEL developed a solution for backlight panels. CLEARSTEP has been created as a support for white onyx and other light stones, where a backlight effect is required. CLEARSTEP, with its semi-transparent surface, is suitable for those applications where it is necessary to preserve the original colour of the stone.
On request, CEL produces extra size dimensions such as 2000x3000.
For restorations and new mosaic creations, the support material must be light, resistant to moisture and have excellent lasting performance.
The Step and the COMPOCEL series can be used as well in outdoor as in indoor applications.
